I represent clients in all phases of federal income, gift and estate tax matters and controversies. This includes representing clients in audits by the IRS and the Missouri Department of Revenue. Many times clients feel that they do not need professional representation when dealing with the IRS or the Department of Revenue. In fact, many clients have told me that the agent initially meeting with them discouraged their use of a tax professional to represent them. However, in general it is a mistake for a taxpayer not to retain a tax professional during an audit. It is kind of like bringing a knife to a gunfight! Many times individuals will volunteer too much information during an audit which results in the audit being expanded beyond the initial scope. With professional representation this usually does not occur. My background in finance and my graduate tax degree from Washington University along with my years of experience dealing with the IRS have given me the unique skills needed to represent clients in this area of practice.
